Chapter
History
The Radnor Chapter of Art Goes To School is one of the original area chapters of the program. Art Goes To School began as an art outreach program of the Junior League of Philadelphia in 1962. At that time, the organization began using trained volunteers from the Community Arts League of the Junior League to work with area school-aged children for the purpose of stimulating in these young children an interest and delight in great works of art from all schools and historic periods and to develop an appreciation and understanding of art as a basic form of expression.

The program was so successful that it was taken over by the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Division of Education in 1971, where it continued its mission of helping children understand and appreciate various styles of art and their common reliance upon line, texture, shape, light, color and composition. Materials from these programs were eventually circulated to local area school districts, one of which included the Radnor Township Area School District. Shortly thereafter, Art Goes To School of the Delaware Valley became an independent, self-supporting organization governed by a steering committee with eight chapters. The Radnor Chapter of Art Goes to School was formally organized in 1973.
Celebrating
Years

Founded in 1973, the Radnor Chapter of Art Goes To School – Delaware Valley has been sharing its art appreciation program with local schools for over fifty years. To mark this milestone, the Radnor chapter members enjoyed a special anniversary celebration
in the Fall of 2024.
Past and current members of the Radnor Chapter were thrilled to be joined at the celebration by current AGTS-DV President Jeana Mastrangeli and AGTS-DV Board Member Lynn Larson and her husband.
Special memories shared amongst chapter members included teaching experiences as well as fun moments from the chapter’s annual winter trips to New York City and annual cocktail parties. It was especially fun to exchange stories with our guests about other chapter’s teaching experiences and practices.
Since the time of its inception, the Radnor Chapter has shared the Art Goes to School
Program with multiple schools in the surrounding and Philadelphia areas and currently
includes the Ithan elementary school as well as the Saint Katherine of Sienna School in
Wayne. The chapter looks forward to another fifty years of educating and encouraging
art appreciation amongst the young students in their community.
